Making games ain't easy...

Microsoft announced earlier last week that they would allow indie developers on Xbox One to self publish. In response to this news, a couple of gaming outlets reached out to Phil Fish, a canadian indie developer, asking for his opinion. Fish refused. Later, in an "Invisible Walls" podcast from Gametrailers.com, Tim Beer went at Fish with pretty harsh words. He called him a "fucking hipster" and a "tosspot" for not giving his opinion on the matter. You can see the juicy bits right at the beginning of the show.

I am not taking sides, mind you. Personally, I don't like either one of these characters, for stuff they've said in the past. But what shook me was how Fish reacted. Shortly before locking his twitter account, he tweeted the following :
"im done.FEZ II is canceled.goodbye."
"to be clear, im not cancelling FEZ II because some boorish fuck said something stupid, im doing it to get out of games"
"and im getting out of games because i choose not to put up with this abuse anymore."
It seems he had quite the meltdown. Not only did he cancel "Fez 2", he also left the gaming industry. That's quite surprising considering, he worked in this industry for quite some time. I mean, he put four years of his life into his first game, "Fez". Four years in which his father died, his girlfriend left him and his former partner gave him legal trouble. Even before Fez he worked at Ubisoft. If you ask me that's a lot to give up on because of haters.Of course he got a lot of hate because of some things he said, and because he was kind of an asshole in some situations, but still. Imagine what all of this can do to a person.

Why is life so hard?

Today as I had nothing better to do than waste some time, I sat down comfortably on my couch, fired up my laptop and sweet jesus was I surprised when I realised my battery was running low. The charger, my only salvation was miles away from my mortal grasp!(2 feet) What could I do in order to get it without leaving the comfort of my couch? I tried grabbing it with my hands with my feet, with a nearby broom. I tried everything. I even had this brilliant idea of throwing my tv remote at the charger. I don't know why I did that, I must've thought the charger would come to its senses and plug itself in my now long dead laptop. "Well then, no internet today", I said, "better watch some tv.Suuuuuuuure. Where was the remote again? Oh right, I threw it next to the charger." I'm sometimes so proud of my vast intellect.

As I was sitting there, something on the wall caught my attention, something small and black and hideous. It was a fly and it was looking straight at me as if it was laughing at my suffering. Then, out of the blue, like it was sent by satan himself to torture me, the evil fly flew straight at me. It was only one fly, but oh boy did it have skill. It flew in from every possible direction, executing evasive maneuvers as if it was a world war two veteran. It finally landed on the screen of my laptop, tired and almost defeated. I closed the lid and heard a squish as my mighty laptop crushed its tiny body. I opened it back up and realised how dumb I was. I now had to clean off its remains from my improvised fly-killer. I didn't realise, but the fly had accomplished its mission: it gave me another reason to get up and leave my comfort behind.

Staring at that once brave fly, now stretched across the screen, I asked myself:" Why is life so goddamn hard?". Seriously. Did something similar happen to you? If yes, leave a comment below.

Game:Terrain Generation

For the last(and only) two posts I've been bragging that I'm working on a game and that it's going to be awesome and blah blah blah. "But what the actual fuck have you done until now?" you may ask. Well, to be honest, not that much, but I think what I have done so far could be considered pretty interesting.

Well then, let me start by showing off how my glorious terrain looks like right now:

So about this game I'm writing...

The game is going to be about survival in the wilderness. Basically, you will have to survive as long as possible in a harsh environment by crafting tools, gathering food, building a shelter, that sort of stuff. You have probably seen it done before in the likes of "Minecraft", "Terraria" or the more recent "Don't Starve". Each of these games is unique in its own way and treats survival differently.

Minecraft is a 3D game about survival.. for about 3-4 hours. That is because in minecraft, surviving becomes very easy after a period of time. You build a farm for food, mine for ores in order to craft better equipment. You craft weapons and build walls to defend against night monsters. Dying also isn't so inconvenient, since you will always respawn next to the last bed you slept in.

Hello World!

You are awesome! Do you know why? Because you came here, that's why! Do it more often. You, dear Sir/Lady have discovered the soon to be greatest blog our species has ever seen. Congratulations. You can start shedding those tears of joy now.

(Hopefully)Awesome intro aside, my name is Todoran Alex and I, my dear readers am trying to start a blog.
I am a 16 years old high school student. I am also a human being, a computer programmer, a gamer, an all around time waster. I started this blog, because I felt there was something missing in my life. I felt as if I hadn't found my way in this chaotic world. I wanted to change that, by starting my own blog and by exposing my innermost fears and feelings to the world. I wanted to open up my heart. LOL NOPE! I started this blog because of my innermost feeling of... boredom (boredom is a feeling, right? who cares anyways).

So what will this blog be about, you ask? As I mentioned earlier I am a computer programmer(WARNING! potentially boring stuff ahead! proceed with caution). I have recently started a game project of my own and I will be documenting my progress as well as interesting algorithms and stuff from the programming world on this blog. However, for those not interested in programming(though, I will try to only post things that anyone can find interesting and that even non-programmers should enjoy), this blog will also contain other(i hope) cool and funny stuff. I will occasionally write down some of my random rants, or i'll write reviews for different things. Or perhaps I'm gonna start my own youtube channel in the future(I am after all 'Some Guy Who Does Things').The point is, this blog will follow my evolution as a person(God help me grow a beard!), the evolution of my game project(stay tuned), and maybe the evolution of my writing skills(yeah right...).

In conclusion I highly recommend(of course I do! it is my blog after all) that you check this blog 'thing' from time to time. Who knows, you may find something actually worth reading. Please leave a comment below and tell me what you think. I will try to answer most comments I get. You can also send me an e-mail at todoranalex97@yahoo.com telling me what a horrible person I am. Pick on anything you don't like. I want to get better (and I do want to appeal my readers after all(if there will be any(bracketception))).Because all good things must come to an end, I hereby declare this first post finished and the blog open!
